Oklahoma City is home to the most inland "working" lighthouse in the United States. The design was developed from a historic lighthouse viewed by the owner on a trip to the East Coast, and an exact scaled down replica was recreated on the Eastern Shore of Lake Hefner. The "Lake Hefner Lighthouse" was constructed using revolutionary construction techniques and has won awards for the building process. It is the first of its kind to use a "Tilt-up" construction process. The construction process was chosen over many possible methods because of its lower initial cost, low maintenance requirements, and speed.
